KEN

Ken has worked with ghosts for nearly 40 years, developing a deep connection to Madison’s haunted history and the stories that linger in its landscape.
One of the most memorable places tied to his experiences was a large hill just north of the Dane County Airport known locally as “Ghost Hill.” The hill was said to be home to at least four apparitions. The first was a pioneer-era woman who appeared in a light-colored flowing dress, believed to have died in a house fire. The second was a Native American figure whose story has largely been lost to time, appearing in traditional attire. The third was an older gentleman in a long coat carrying a lantern, his background unclear but his presence frequently reported. The fourth was a man on horseback, said to be searching for his killer.
Whether Ghost Hill once held graves or burial mounds is unknown, as the top 15 to 25 feet of the hill was removed in the early 1900s and used as road base material when a quarry opened on the site, erasing much of its physical history.
The business located on the hill specialized in exterior stone creations designed to match historic buildings and add character to new construction. Through this work, Ken developed a lasting appreciation for architecture and the craftsmanship that defines Madison’s historic structures.
Join Ken to explore Madison’s ghost lore and architectural history, where haunted legends and historic design come together to tell the hidden story of the city.
